Cataract Surgery

Cataract surgery is the most common eye surgery performed in the United States, and new advances in technology have made cataract surgery even safer and more successful than ever.

How Does Cataract Surgery Work?

The eye is first cleaned and dilated, and then the smallest incision possible is made to the eye so that the cataract can be removed. An ultrasonic probe enters through the micro incision and is used to break up the cataract. Then, the probe suctions out the cataract material so that the hardened cataract can be removed. After the cataract has been removed, the surgeon will implant an intraocular lens.

The monofocal lens, presbyopia-correcting lens, and the toric lens are some choices for intraocular lens implants. It is important to talk to your doctor about which type of lens is needed to help correct your vision after cataract surgery.

Recovery Time Of Cataract Surgery

The recovery period is usually short, and most patients are able to pursue normal activities very soon after surgery. Your doctor will review what to expect before, during, and after the procedure, as well as use of eye drops, and the schedule for postoperative office visits.
